|Les Tout Petit Mardi Gras, the courir of very
little Mardi Gras, go on their run through the countryside near Iota Sunday
afternoon before heading into town where they give a brief performance on the main stage
used by the Iota Folklife Festival on Mardi Gras day.
They are pictured at right gathered on a porch during a stop in the
countryside prior to some chicken-chasing. They ride in the Tee-Mamou Mardi Gras wagon.
The other pictures on this page show the young Mardi Gras in
Iota on the stage, where they dance and sing, and, of course, beg the crowd to throw a few
coins, which they scoop up from the floor of the stage.
As the bottom picture shows, the co-capitaines maintain
strict order with their burlap whips.
The young Mardi Gras also perform about 2 p.m. on the main
stage Mardi Gras day.
